Thrush skin disease
Thrush appears sometimes in the mouth of bottle-fed babies as dry whitish patches on the tongue and buccal mucosa composed of the fungus growing in the superficial layers of the mucous membrane. The patches are easily scraped off .The condition is also not uncommon in patients treated with the broad-spectrum antibiotics.
Treatment
Nystatin a specific antibiotic against candida, is painted on the affected areas four hourly in the form of a suspension in a strength of 100,000 units per ml. of water, cure taking place in a few days. In the case of bottle-fed babies the nystatin may be added to the milk (1 ml. of suspension per bottle). In adults nystatin tablets may be sucked.
