I wanted to bring this clinical trial for Dementia with Lewy bodies (DLB) into the awareness of all readers of the Alzheimer's Reading Room.

There is only one way we will ever find an effective treatment for Alzheimer's or Lewy Body dementia and that is through active participation by caregivers and their loved one's in clinical trials.

Right now, this is not happening. We must all become advocates of clinical trials and clinical trial research.

The fact. No new drug can be approved until a Phase 3 clinical trial is completed. Then and only then, can the results be submitted to the FDA for approval of a new drug or medication.

All of the existing and open clinical trials for Alzheimer's have been searching for eligible participants for years. Years.

Greater participation by caregivers and their loved one is the only way to shorten the path to approval for an effective treatment of Alzheimer's or Lewy Body dementia.

HEADWAY-DLB is a Phase 2b clinical research study evaluating an investigational medication, RVT-101, for dementia with Lewy bodies (DLB).

The purpose of the study is to evaluate the safety and efficacy of RVT-101 in treating patients with a diagnosis of DLB.

Are you or a loved one suffering from dementia with Lewy bodies? If so learn more about HEADWAY-DLB. If not, please share this with anyone you know that might be eligible.

Interested patients and caregivers can also go directly to the pre-qualify questionnaire to learn if they might be eligible.

Clinical trial participants can be reimbursed for their time and expenses.

Right now, there are no medications specially approved for the treatment of Dementia with Lewy bodies in the United States.

Lewy Body dementia patients:

  • tend to be younger than those with Alzheimer's,
  • deteriorate more quickly,
  • develop extreme symptoms like hallucinations,
  • and, experience violent nightmares early in the disease process.
LBD affects an estimated 1.4 million individuals and their families in the United States.
