There are people who do not consider holistic approaches to the diseases’ prevention and health maintenance at all, there are others who believe in the holistic healing abilities much stronger than in the power of the traditional medicine. And the truth is, probably, somewhere in the middle. And the best approach is very individual for each and every person.

Chakra meditation is a powerful therapy, but you have to be open to it to make it useful. And openness to the unusual life experience is not easily adopted. In this post we will review useful techniques for the chakra meditation, strengthening the approaches for the Alzheimer’s Disease prevention.

Chakra Diagnosis and Healing

It is quite understandable that the well-balanced, healthy and harmonious Chakras are important in maintaining holistic health.

So what then are Chakras and what is the role that they play in our physical, mental and spiritual well-being?

A body of energy called Aura permeates our physical body. However, the Aura is unevenly distributed and like the whirlpools in an ocean, there are swirling vortexes of energy in our Aura. These vortexes of energy look like spinning wheels and hence the name 'Chakras'.

One way to fully understand your whole being is to understand and experience your Chakra energetic system. These wheels of energy blend your life-force energy with your physical energy. They are an integral part of our life-force energy keeping our whole mind and body working together. There are major and minor chakras; the major chakras manage your most critical bodily functions and issues, and the minor chakras regulate less fundamental needs. These energy centers are located on and around your body.

The experiences that we go through, our thoughts and attitudes can, and does cause imbalance or blocks in our Chakras. Especially those who tend towards negative emotions or reactions are more prone to have completely or partially blocked Chakras and many times even blown out Chakras. All our expressions, feelings and senses, including the sixth sense, are associated with the major Chakras.

Any problem that you have, whether it a physical ailment, negative emotion(s), faulty beliefs or rigid, dogmatic spiritual perceptions, stems from or creates stuck energy. To fully heal from an ailment, you must release the stagnant energy that is the root cause of it. By working with your Chakras, you can clear away the stuck energy that does not serve your highest purpose. This broadens your perspective which will assist you in making the changes necessary for better health, relationships and personal and financial wellbeing.

With free and clear Chakras, you realize abundance in loving relationships, you become in touch with your feelings and creativity, you access your personal power, you are able to fully give and receive love, you are open to express yourself and communicate freely, you gain an inner understanding of your being and the world that you live in, and you become connected to your highest self and feel an internal harmony that everyone should experience.

There are seven major Chakras, each of which is located in a specific area, have a specific name and a specific set of functions. They regulate the energy flow throughout our bodies and also govern the seven major endocrine glands and by extension various parts of our bodies.

Chakras’ Location in a Body

1. Root Chakra - Represents our foundation and feeling of being grounded.
Location: Base of spine in tailbone area.

2. Sacral Chakra - Our connection and ability to accept others and new experiences.
Location: Lower abdomen, about 2 inches below the navel and 2 inches in.

3. Solar Plexus Chakra - Our ability to be confident and in-control of our lives.
Location: Upper abdomen in the stomach area.

4. Heart Chakra - Our ability to love.
Location: Center of chest just above heart.

5. Throat Chakra - Our ability to communicate.
Location: Throat.

6. Third Eye Chakra - Our ability to focus on and see the big picture.
Location: Forehead between the eyes.

7. Crown Chakra - The highest Chakra represents our ability to be fully connected spiritually.
Location: The very top of the head.

Chakra Meditation and Alzheimer’s Disease

There are different schools of thoughts on the primary chakra, responsible for the Alzheimer’s prevention, and I will stick to the more traditional one, claiming that the main chakra is number 6 (Third Eye, Brow or Ajna Chakra) and the secondary one is number 7 (Crown Chakra, or Sahasrara Chakra).

Third Eye Chakra

The Third Eye chakra is also called Ajna Chakra, which means 'Command Center'. It is also known as the Third-Eye Chakra due to its location between the eye brows. It deals with your inner vision, intuition and intellect.

With an open sixth chakra you can connect better with your intuitive abilities. You are able to see your life purpose from an expanded view and you have better trust in the process of life. Your consciousness and awareness are greatly expanded.

Your Third Eye Chakra is dysfunctional if you experience any of the following; Irritation towards anyone, Allergic to someone, Don't like what you see in your own life, Don't want to see what is out there, Don't want to see what is going on in the family, Inability to see ahead with joy, Believing in dark future, Resisting life's flow, Not trusting life's process, Don't want to hear the truth, Longstanding unresolved emotional problems, Refusing to change old patterns, Clogged thinking, Fear of the present and future life, Denial of the true self, self-image; Cultural or gender-based misperceptions, Denying your own trouble, 'I' trouble, Invalidating the self, Self-criticism, Not feeling good enough, Not worthy.

From the book Meditation As Medicine: Activate the Power of Your Natural Healing Force by M.D. Dharma Singh Khalsa M.D.: “Dysfunction of the sixth chakra can also result in memory dysfunction. My extensive work with Alzheimer’s patients, as well as patients in various stages of the ubiquitous condition of age-associated memory disorder, has led me to believe that sixth-chakra dysfunction is a major element in memory loss. In innumerable cases, my patients with memory loss have benefited tremendously from Medical Medications that focus primarily upon the sixth chakra, and in particular from the vibratory effects of chanting . . .”

The symptoms of a dysfunctional sixth chakra are:

Physical/ Medical issues

Brain Tumor, Cataracts, Deafness, Dyslexia, Insomnia, Far-sightedness, Migraine, Dementia, Alzheimer’s, Short-sightedness, Sinus Problems, Tension Headaches, Allergies, Crossed eyes, Deafness, Earache, Fainting spells, Certain cases of blindness, Sty, Astigmatism, Cataracts, Glaucoma, Exotropia, scalp related problems, blood supply to the head, Cancer, Headaches, Nervousness, Anxiety disorders, Insomnia, Head colds, High blood pressure, Migraine headaches (also first and seventh chakras), Nervous Breakdowns, Amnesia, Chronic tiredness, Dizziness, Hormonal imbalances, Growth or development issues, Body-image disorders.

Emotional Issues

Crossed purposes, Stony un-forgiveness, Feeling overwhelmed, Rejection, Stubbornness, Isolation - Not wanting to be bothered, Anger - Too much turmoil - Can't cope, Blacking out, Incorrect beliefs, Dislike of being driven, Anxiety, Struggle, Self-centeredness, 'Yes, but' attitude, Lack of joy, Flighty, Scattered thinking, Invalidating the self, Self-criticism, Jammed channels of communication, Difficulty in planning the future.

Crown Chakra

The crown chakra is mainly associated with, communication to our spiritual nature. It is about our integration as a whole, all aspects of our life and our sense of living in the now.

The crown chakra governs the area of the head above the ears and in particular the top of the head.
An imbalance will first resonate as a tingle, ache or sensitivity in the regions governed by the crown chakra. Even small tingles and aches can be a sign that something needs to be addressed. As soon as the emotional issue has been resolved, the ache WILL clear up or simply completely vanish. The relative strength of the ache, tingle or pain can be used as a guide to the size of the issue. Can manifest quickly as a 'butterflies' sensation, a feeling as though something is moving inside you. There may be intense or dull pressure, headache or migraine starting or extending to the crown of your head.

A tingle may serve as a warning that you may be repeating an unhealthy pattern. Severe migraine at the crown may be telling you that you have issues surrounding living for the moment. Personal analysis with honest and clear communication with yourself is very important.

Physical/ Medical issues

If the emotional issue is left unattended to, it may lead on to more serious issues such as Depression, Parkinson's disease, Schizophrenia, Epilepsy, Senile dementia, Alzheimer's , many mental disorders, confusion, dizziness, and even just feeling as if one has a muzzy head.

Muscular diseases and sensitivity to light and sound are also associated with the crown chakra.

Emotional Issues

An imbalance in the crown chakra may be brought on by issues involving a lack of reality (a strong desire for an outcome which is not yet happening) issues surrounding a personal loss of purpose or meaning in one’s life, feeling like you are having an identity crisis, feeling superior, having little or no concern for others, having a real lack of acceptance, being judgmental, having a lack of purpose.

It only takes one of these emotional conditions to form an imbalance, the intensity of which will be in direct relation. As you become more aware of yourself and the link between your emotional and physical aspects of you, your body responds more quickly to even the slightest emotional imbalance.

Third Eye Opening Meditation Technique

Third eye meditation technique should be considered first before approaching the crown chakra meditation. It is easier to achieve practical results with third eye chakra, and it is significantly safer. It is important if you are not practicing in guided meditation, but trying to start independently by yourself.

You can use the simple meditation exercise below to open your third eye and start seeing your own future clearer right away. All you need to do is follow the steps below to access the power of your third eye.

1. Find a place which is comfortable and free of distractions. Make sure you are seated in a position that is comfortable and let you feel relaxed and grounded at the same time.

2. Listen to your own personalized Stillness Sound or appropriate music clip, either with headphones or by playing it out loud.

3. Open your practice by taking a deep breath in through your nose and holding it before exhaling. Feel your limbs becoming loose and your body relaxing.

4. As you continue breathing, feel the relaxation spreading to every part of you. Focus on relaxing each part of your body individually if it helps you.

5. When you are ready, bring your attention to the center of your brow, on your forehead. Tilt your eyes upward to ‘look’ at your third eye.

6. Feel any negative thoughts, anxiety, uncertainty, or worries that might be resting in your mind. Identify these thoughts, let them run their course, and then release them as you exhale.

7. Imagine a triangle with a golden reflection appearance opening up like a window into your mind.  With slow deliberation, imagine you can lean inside your head and see all your thoughts, experiences and issues hiding in the darkness.  To the side, you see a light switch, and you reach over without a thought and flick it on.  Bright fluorescent light fills your mind, and the reflection is bright and healing, flooding every cell.

8. Imagine a bright fluorescent light is streaming out of the golden triangular window. As you close your eyes, picture that light shining out before you in every direction, illuminating the path before you.

9. Imagine that this light is an expression of your higher self and your purest form. Feel it as it fills your entire body and radiates outwards from your third eye. One by one, any thought, issue and contemplation begins to leave through the window, unable to take the new light.  Imagine the light drawing past trauma, worry, sadness, anger and any negative thought or belief right out of your head forever, never to have another consideration.

10. When you feel satisfied that your mind has been cleared with perfect deliberation by this powerful light, you can close the window and return to lying in your body.  Imagine you can see a reflection of yourself laying there doing your third eye meditation, and picture the golden triangle slowly becoming brighter and brighter until it floods your whole body.  As the light brightens, your rumination deepens even further, and you experience the beauty of a mind clear of thought and contemplation.

11. Notice and welcome any thoughts, visions, emotions, or experiences that come to you automatically as you focus on the third eye. You might feel as though you are dreaming without being asleep.

12. When you are ready, bring your awareness back to your own existence in the present and slowly let go of your breath. Identify your body and affirm your presence in the world.

Crown Chakra Meditation Technique

1. Begin by sitting in your normal meditation posture - preferably cross legged on the floor, and if that's difficult, sit on a chair with your back and your shoulders straight. Alternatively, you could lie down on the floor, but you run the risk of dozing off.

2. Take a few deep breaths and calm your body and mind and close your eyes. Take a long and deep breath. As you exhale, move attention to the top of your head, and imagine a violet chakra. The dark violet glow of the chakra illuminates your mind and the rest of your body.

3. Imagine a big, white lotus with its petals closed in the same place as your crown chakra.  Look at the lotus and contemplate upon its shape, color and texture. As you pay attention, the lotus slowly starts to swirl along with the chakra. One by one the petals of the lotus start to open. As the first layer flowers, you see uncountable rows of more petals still to open. With every new petal opening the lotus starts spinning faster. You realize that every such opening leads to yet another layer of closed petals. The blooming of the lotus is an on-going process of infinite stages.

4. Now see your seventh chakra spinning with equal strength. The chakra's violet light washes over you and pervades every cell, every pore in your body.

5. Breathe deeply and feel the energy from your crown chakra connecting you to the sky above and to the earth below, and to everything in between, so you become one with existence.

6. Rest in this awareness.

7. When you are ready, open your eyes and arise.
